TV geeks

In London, I bought no dresses or vintage clothes, but loads of DVDs. Including this 2 season pack of Britain's wonderfull show "The IT Crowd". This is a sitcom about 2 geeky-nerdy-weirdo guys and the hysterical girl working with them in a big dull company. The whole show is awesome, but the DVDs are probably the wicked I've ever seen.

First of all, if you don't know the show, the intro looks like a retro-game kind of thing. Here it is :

So the Dvd Titles and Menus follow the same lead, with a retro-gaming feeling and nerdy jokes ("all your bases are belong to us" and such). The work on those are amazing, the loops are long and funny to watch :

Moreover, the Dvds are full of easter eggs. What's an easter egg, I hear you ask, you poor non-gamer. Well, it's a funny thing, usually not useful at all, that programmers hide in video games and such. It doesn"t have any point, except that it's a parallel quest, a thing to look for and search. The first easter egg in video-game history is this one, apparently. Well, on this DVDs they took it to another level altogether. On the first Serie, if you pick "1337" subtitles, the dialogues are translated in leet, geek-speak if you like.

On the second Serie, if you pick the Leet Subtitles, you get a bunch of lines of weird script, like that :

The leet subtitles are actually base64 encoded files. So you have to extract subtitles from DVD, convert subtitles to text, decode text to files. Then you get something for each episode. A picture, a text adventure... People are actually trying right now to decode the files and get the game going, but it seems a very hard thing to do. As I'm useless in programming stuff, I'll just wait for someone to break the code and show the easter eggs on the internet...

Those guys are CRAZY.
